We've created this ultimate Australian music festival guide, which includes 30 festivals Australia wide, to not only help you plan out which festivals you will be attending but to also help you discover new quality events all around Australia. We've put the festivals in chronological order to make it that much easier to plan the big days and trips out. See what music festivals in Australia have to offer.

Listen Out 

This sweet festival, held annually towards the end of September and the beginning of October is always set to be an amazing day out in the heat of the sun and then finished off with some of the best headline shows at night. Expect the same with this years line up, a little less local than usual, but definitely something worth looking forward to with the likes of Future, Bryson Tiller, Duke Dumont, Green Velvet, Jai Wolf, Pnau, Mac Miller and many more confirmed in attendance. The event takes place in the heart of Sydney and is a treat to get to and from with public transport.

Strawberry Fields

This festival, set in the Australian bushland, celebrates creative expression, art and sound. So far, the sweet lineup that has been announced includes established and up-and-coming acts such as Harvey Sutherland & Bermuda, Andrew Weatherall, Sampa The Great, Vaal, CC:DISCO!, Fatima, Penny Gou and more. You can also take part in activities such as wild river swimming, art installations, workshops and healing, and watch some awesome performances. With three camping options available, you'll be able to rest up for each day and night of adventure and fun.

Harbour Life

As the name suggests, this house music festival takes place on the incredible Sydney Harbour. We suggest you buy your ticket way in advance, because this is one event you don't want to miss. Another way to experience the event, especially if you can't get your hands on a ticket, is to hire a boat or a private yacht charter for the day. You'll party the afternoon and evening away, catch a glimpse of world-class house DJs such as Claptone, Jax Jones, Set Mo, Made In Paris and more. Sydney welcomes the arrival of Summer with great tunes and good vibes. Whether you are in the event, or dancing away on the harbour, make sure you enjoy responsibly.

Sensation

Kicking off in 2000, Sensation has quickly become one of the biggest international roaming festivals around and is coming to Sydney this November. The theme of the festival "‘Celebrate Life’ unites everyone on the dance floor and creates an atmosphere of togetherness. With everyone dressed in white, the crowd is immersed in a tidal wave of unity and euphoria". The festival is set to feature a huge list of acts including Deadmau5, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, Don Diablo, Fedde Le Grand, Showtek and more. If you're keen for a big festival and an even bigger night, Sensation is the place to be.

Earth Core

Earth Core festival will celebrate its 24th anniversary this year. It is known as one of Australia’s pioneering outdoor culture, arts, music and lifestyle events, bringing to you a huge range of artists inclusive of Nick Curly, Anna, Bliss, Droplex and more over 4 events in VIC, NSW, QLD and WA. You will see some of the best Aussie and international artists, as well as being able to take part in workshops, watch performances, walk through the bazaar and food markets, and choose from 4 tiers of camping options. Earth Core is about being raw and one with the earth through music and other expressive forms. Cut loose and break from the norm.

Subsonic

The theme concept for this year’s festival was planned by Fleur Optekamp, who is an artist, a designer and photographer - it was inspired by space, creatures, travel and music. The festival is held every December, and brings together both well-known and new artists in the funk, jazz, techno, bass and hip hop scenes. You can expect the likes of UK experimental composer Andrew Weatherall, the techno minimalist Daniel Bell, as well as Fred P. and Julia Govor. You'll also have the chance to hear artists such as MR G, Tini, Opiuo, Dub Fx, Barac and many more. Camping is included in the ticket price, but you can also book a spot in "Tent City" if you want a more luxurious stay. Tickets are available on the website.

Fotsun

With the beginning of Summer, what more do we want than good music, good vibes, camping and the beach? The "Festival of the Sun" or "FOTSUN" lineup includes Meg Mac, Ball Park Music, The Preatures, Horrowshow, Holy Holy, Kim Churchill, Bad//Dreems, Sampa The Great and many more artists. Situated out on the Australian east coast, what better way to enjoy summer than at this awesome boutique festival. You can expect great camping facilities, free workshops, food trucks, silent comedy, BYO drinks and bands all day and night! FOTSUN is known for its chill vibes and relaxed style.

Lost Paradise

Beyond the Valley


Over the 4 days celebrating the New Year, you'll dance and sing along to a huge selection of Australian and international artists such as Schoolboy Q, The Presets, Matt Corby, Stormzy, Mura Masa, Little Dragon, Stephan Bodzin, Sampa The Great, Hayden James, Dom Dolla, San Cisco and so many more. The boutique festival is located atop the parklands of Lardner in South-Eastern Victoria. Fans will remember this New Years Eve for years to come! General camping is free and available to all those with a valid ticket, though if you're after a little something extra, glamping tickets are still available online.

Let Them Eat Cake

With a huge line up of local and international artists, Melbourne will be able to celebrate the New Year the best way possible - with sweet tunes and awesome food. 'Cake is an architecturally abstract sonically lush and audaciously indulgent gathering. A wild child of New Years Day'. You'll have the chance to dance along Jackmaster, Nadia Rose, The Gasslamp Killer, Tourist, Bella sarris, Mall Grab, Kllo and many more. Field Day

Field Day has always been an awesome day out, especially as its on New Years Day and situated in the heart of Sydney CBD. Just like previous years, you can expect a big day ahead with a line up to make your mouth drool. The event features an array of electronic, indie and Rnb/Hip-hop artists. The event will be headlined by Flume and supported by artists such as Golden Features, George Maple, Schoolboy Q, Mura Masa, A-Trak, Bauuer, DJ Snake, Stormzy, Thundamentals, Vince Staples, Wafia and more! In the middle of the Aussie summer, you better get your hands on tickets fast!

FOMO

FOMO is a recent addition to the Australian music festival scene, but really has made its mark with big name line ups and quality production. This year the festival will stop over at Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney - the 6th, 7th, 11th and the 13th of January respectively. The one-day one-stage event has an impressive local and international line up travelling Australia including Kaytranada, ZHU, The Kite String Tangle, RL GRIME, Tourist, SZA, Dena Amy and many more. At last look, tickets were on final release!

UNIFY


Unify is a three day heavy music festival that is a gathering of punk, hardcore and metal fans and artists. Based in Victoria, this boutique music festival is sweet concoction of local and international artists including Parkway Drive, Tonight Alive, Polaris, The Amity Affliction, Void of Vision and many more. Whether or not you're into rock / metal music, unify is definitely a festival that will provide good times.

Rainbow Serpent

"A strange yet wonderful combination of soul and technology", this festival has been running in Australia for over 20 years, and comes from the Dreamtime creation story told by the traditional owners of the land. There is a real sense of community at this festival, and you'll experience world-class producers and artists, DJs and bands over the weekend. You'll also enjoy the various performances, workshops, talks and markets, as well as the quality camping/accommodation options.

ST JEROME'S LANEWAY FESTIVAL

Held in 5 Aussie cities, as well as in NZ and Singapore, Laneway festival is a must attend for anyone wanting to dip their feet into the festival scene. They recently announced the line up, inclusive of Mac De Marco, Anderson Paak and the Free Nationals, Odesza, Bonobo, Wolf AliceThe Internet plus more. Tickets are now on sale, and through its 12 year history, this indie/pop/rock/electronic festival always has an incredible line up, as well as awesome food outlets and generous bars. Still in the Aussie summer, you'll enjoy the music, drinks, food and company.

Let Go Fest

Let Go Fest features deep house, live acoustic, hip hop, RnB, techno, percussion and Melbourne bounce music. With more than 6 stages of entertainment, this year's event saw the likes of RUFUS, Hayden James, Set Mo, Press Play, Boogs and more performing for the huge crowds, lets hope next year's line up is as good. The silent disco is always a winner, as well as the ferris wheel and a huge range of activities available. Dates have not been released for next year's event yet.

Mountain Sounds Festival

"It is first and foremost, an experience. Parties are transient. We’re all about creating something that transcends memorability and becomes ritualistic. Music, art and culture are what make this boutique festival what it is, and we strive each year to bring some of the best local and national talent to the stage and the canvas". With a sold out event this year, we're looking at a big line up for next years event including: Hayden James, Motez, Paces, Gang of Youths, Hot Dub Time Machine and many more. As the name suggests, the festival and campground are located in the Mount Penang Parklands. 2018 will see the 5th festival.

Party in the Paddock Festival

With over 35 different artists performing over the 2 days, those lucky enough to have snagged tickets to this year's event will be partying along to Vera Blue, Tash Sultana, Chase City, Sun Daze, Remi, Luca Brasi, The Beenies, and a bunch of other triple j favourites! We love that the organisers have partnered up with BeyondBlue, to donate $1 for every ticket sold to help fight depression and anxiety. This event is already sold out for next year! Riverboats Music Festival

Just one look at this year's line-up will surely get you going! Fans were able to chill and dance to acts such as Paul Kelly & Charlie Owen, Mia Dyson, Husky, James Reyne, Shane Howard and William Crighton. In early October, we will find out next year's line-up. Over the 3 days, you will enjoy good company, good food and drinks, and an excellent selection of musical talents. All FAQs on accommodation, food and much more can be found on the website.

The Hills are Alive

All we currently know of next year's festival are the dates. Last year saw a huge range of comedians, late night DJs and bands including Gretta Ray, Amy Shark, Geraldine Hickey, Remi, Bob Franklin and Jordan Rakei. You can sign up on the website for updates, though last year's tickets included BYO alcohol, street cart food, morning yoga, art installations and free camping.

Blues Fest

Bluesfest is a showcase of blues and roots music through over 200 performances with up to 7 stages over 5, 12 hour days on a 120 hectare farm in Byron Bay - now those are some heart melting numbers! This festival brings together a wide array of international and local artists, with the line up due to be released later this year. Not only will you get to experience this amazing festival, you can also experience all the other awesome things Byron Bay has to offer.

Rabbits Eat Lettuce

Having just celebrated its 10th anniversary, the Rabbits Eat Lettuce festival is set next year to have 24/7 tunes, 2 dance stages, one live music stage, heaps of camping options, BYO alcohol, and a mammoth line up - HermitudeKolombo, Noir, Go Freek,  Lane 8, Nyxen, Will Clarke, Yheti and many more! You are encouraged to dress yourself and your campsite up, meet new people, and enjoy the awesome tunes and the great natural surrounds.

Boogie 11 – Boogie Goes To Eleven

Just one look at the website and you'll understand why this festival is so cool. At last count, you'll be boogieing down to 40 different international and local artists and DJs, all bringing their own individual sounds and energy to the event. The festival also features an all out carboard war called Boxwars. BYO alcohol is definitely an advantage, though you'll already have so much food and alcohol to choose from as well over this short Easter break. With three different basic camping areas and one more luxurious option available, you will surely be able to make yourself comfortable for a weekend to remember!

Wide Open Space

Held at the mouth of N’Dhala Gorge, 80km away from Alice Springs, this festival promises live bands, electronic producers, Hip Hop crews, DJs, acoustic acts, yodelling quartets, desert reggae acts and anything in between (Not to mention Hiatus Kaiyote, Skank & Shake, Storey Teller and Average Rap Band plus many more). Celebrating uniquely Australian art and culture, you will also be able to participate in a wide range of workshops, panels and talks - focusing on the body, mind and soul. With 4 camping/accommodation options and a swimming pool available, this festival will really make you appreciate our amazing country.

Big Pineapple Music Festival

Festivalgoers were treated to an absolute massive line up at this year's event, with Birds of Tokyo, Peking Duck, Safia, Polish Club, Sampa The Great, Boo Seeka and many more playing spectacular shows! Camping was available the night before the event, as well as a number of food outlets and bars. This indie/alternative festival is a great one-day event, so keep an eye out for tickets!

Groovin the Moo

Held in 6 states this year, this festival is known for its huge range of local and international artists in all music genres. Not much info on next year's event is available yet, though if we base our assumptions on the past quality events, we imagine it will only keep getting bigger and better! This year the event featured an amazing line up including Snakehips, Thundementals, Dillion Francis, Hayden James, Slumberjack and many more talents. Splendour in the Grass

Splendour in the Grass is renowned for its huge range of Aussie and international artists. Probably one of the best known festivals held in Australia, seeing thousands of people flock to sleepy Byron in winter every year. There are many markets and art installations, but the main reason to attend the festival is to hear the likes of The XX, Queens of the Stone Age, LCD Soundsystem, Peking Duck, RL Grime, Bernard FanningStormzy, Meg Mac, The Kite String Tangle, Big Scary and Topaz Jones plus many more.

Sounds of the Suburbs

Situated in Sydney's south, Sounds of the Suburbs is a boutique festival featuring local artists, food and culture. Only held a few weeks ago, fans of this one-day event got to see its biggest line-up yet, with the likes of Skeggs, Colleen Green, Ruby Fields, Bleeding Knees, Jacuzzi Boys, Camp Cope and many more up close and personal. It went late into the night, with over 24 bands, 3 stages, and 18 lanes to be a part of!

Defqon.1 

Defqon is a festival known for its amazing production and sound. This year, we had the choice of 6 stages with line-ups full of Hardstyle and heavy electronic DJs and artists. Whether you wanted to see Oski, Sippy, Adrenalize, Wildstylez, GammerJackal and many more. Festivalgoers were able to lose themselves in the music, dancing in the sunlight and being a part of the massive crowd and awesome festival. We expect to see the same big things from Defqon in 2018
